Stewardship at Nassau Presbyterian Church

stewardship graphicStewards are those who care for things that belong to someone else.  Here at Nassau Presbyterian Church, stewardship is a shared responsibility and trust, and each one of us makes a difference as we care for the things and people that belong to God and the gifts God has given to us.
Nassau Presbyterian Church offers a variety of giving opportunities for its members, friends and family to express their gratefulness.

We invite you to expand your thoughts on giving and to be a part of the work of Nassau in ways larger than you ever have before. We encourage you to set a target for your giving that will help you grow spiritually. We ask you to consider giving as a percentage of what you have, to establish a giving goal, and to begin working towards that goal. You may find that you can reach that goal with next year’s pledge or you may find it will take a number of years to reach your goal. But in making this pledge you will be demonstrating your love and trust in God’s faithfulness, God’s ability to use you and God’s command to help others. In the end, you will be blessed by God in your faithful response to the gift that God has given to you.

Being a good Steward calls for a response to God for these gifts. We encourage you to consider and reflect upon the variety of gifts God has given us—

  • our faith in Jesus Christ and the workings of  the Holy Spirit,
  • our church and  the ministries we enjoy, the wonderful staff that works with us and on our behalf
  • our physical wellbeing and our pleasures in the world of work and leisure
  • Those whom we love, and those who love us

In response to God’s generosity, we encourage you to reflect on gifts you can give.  Without each of us attending to our own gifts as well as the needs of others, the vine does not bear fruit.   Here are some Biblical characterizations of the acts of giving back to God:

  • Graciously and generously: For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9)
  • Cheerfully: We give cheerfully to those we love. If we love God, we give cheerfully to Him. If we love His cause, we give cheerfully through His church. Such giving is pleasing to God, “for God loves a cheerful giver”(2 Cor. 9:7)
  • In Response to Human Need: Jesus commended an unnamed Samaritan for responding to human need. And He said: “Go and do thou likewise” (Luke 10:37).
  • Systematically: “You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the LORD your God... “ (Exodus 34:26)
  • According to your means: We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia,For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord….. (2 Corinthians 8:1-4)
  • As proof of your love: “I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine...” (2 Cor. 8:8)
