Children's Curricula Fall 2007

Akaloo, our new curriculum for ages 4 – grade 4 is published by Augsburg Fortress Press in partnership with the Presbyterian Church USA. The curricula are organized around five themes. Developmentally appropriate questions, within these themes, form units of study.

Unit 1: Bible
       Pre-K and K: What kinds of stories are in the Bible?
      1st and 2nd: Whose stories are in the Bible?
      3rd and 4th: How can I use my Bible?
Unit 2: God
      Pre-K and K: What does God do?
      1st and 2nd: Why did God send Jesus?
      3rd and 4th: What is the Trinity?
Unit 3: Living as a Disciple
      Pre-K and K: What does a Child of God do?
      1st and 2nd: How can I follow Jesus?
      3rd and 4th: Who are my neighbors?
Unit 4: Church
      Pre-K and K: What are the parts of my church?
      1st and 2nd: How can I make a difference at church?
      3rd and 4th: What does the church celebrate?
Unit 5: World
      Pre-K and K: How can I help my family?
      1st and 2nd: How can I share my faith with others?
      3rd and 4th: Why is belonging to a community important?
Church school lessons will include Bible stories, and a range of activities including art, games, music, puzzles and drama. Parents who register their children for church school will be offered access to the Akaloo web-site where children can continue to learn at home through games and activities.
