Really Simple Syndication
Wikipedia offers a great introductory article to Really Simple Syndication. In short, by using free web sites (such as www.feedalot.com and my.yahoo.com) or by utilizing the built-in capabilities of software you may already be using (Outlook, Safari, Firefox), you can "subscribe" to content, which is delivered to your news reader automatically, as it is published. This "subscription" process is totally free. Nassau Church has now joined the ranks of thousands of web sites offering RSS feeds.
Once you've completed this "really simple" tutorial, you will be able to get the latest news, not only from Nassau Church, but from any of these thousands of sites that you choose. It's like making your own personal newspaper, with only the subjects that matter to you. To access RSS through the above-mentioned software packages, consult the help directory from within the program. If your internet browser or e-mail program does not currently support RSS, it almost certainly soon will.
Accessing Nassau Church's RSS Feed with Feedalot.com
(note: screen images and page layout may have changed since creation of this tutorial.)
1. Access Feedalot's homepage.
Visit www.feedalot.com, and click on the "Sign Up!" button near the bottom of the page. While at this homepage, you can read a number of useful tips on RSS in general.
2. Set Up a New User Account.
Choose a username (10 characters max.) and a password. That's it. You don't need to add your name, address, or anything else. It's totally free and anonymous. Click on "I agree".
3. Visit your Inbox.
After a moment, you will be taken directly to your inbox, which is currently empty. Select "Add Feed" from the menu on the left hand side.
4. Add Nassau Church's Feed.
In the space provided, enter the feed exactly as you see it printed below. For guaranteed accuracy, highlight, copy and paste all the red text that follows: http://feeds.feedburner.com/nassauchurch
5. View the Feed.
Your subscription to the feed is verified, and you may access it by clicking on "Inbox" in the left hand menu. Each time you log onto feedalot.com your inbox will include the latest information from Nassau Church.
6. Continue to Browse Feedalot For More Possibilities.
Use Feedalot's search function, or "What's Hot" to find feeds from your favorite television shows, sports teams, and magazines. And be sure to read how easy it is to access feeds directly from your Palm, Blackberry, or cell phone.
